Sore Throat, Cold and Flu Prevention, and Cure Remedies

The following recipes are ayurvedic, therefore not 100% vegan because I am using honey. I believe in the healing powers of honey, especially when dealing with sore throats and coughs.

Homemade Cold and Flu Prevention Elixir

Ingredients

  • 500g raw organic honey*
  • 3 lemons, juiced
  • 2.5 cloves garlic, minced

Method

In an airtight glass container, combine all of the ingredients and let sit in a dark and cool place for one week.

For best results take a small teaspoon of the elixir twice a day: in the morning and before bed.

Can be stored in the refrigerator up to six months.

Honey is a powerful immune system booster. It’s an antioxidant and has antibacterial properties which can help prevent and fight illness.

*Honey is not vegan, but I have not found a substitute yet.

This cleansing elixir was originally given to me by a Hungarian friend and it became my immune system support.

Children take one teaspoon at bedtime.

Sore Throat Treatment Syrup – German Style (Zwiebelsirup)

Ingredients

  • 1 onion, cut into pieces
  • 2 tablespoons raw organic honey
  • 1 sweet red or yellow apple

Method

Let this mixture sit for about one hour.

Take 3 times a day one tablespoon of the onion liquid.

Honey-Apple Mixture

Ingredients

  • 1/2 apple, finely grated
  • 1/4 onion, finely grated
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1 tablespoon raw organic honey

Method


Mix all ingredients together, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator, and take every couple one tablespoon of the mixture of hours.

Ayurveda Cough Syrup

When your voice is almost gone but you need to talk all day ….

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon raw organic honey
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Method


Mix all the ingredients together, take one or more teaspoons as needed throughout the day.

Indian Healing Liquid

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of hot water
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, finely grated or just a piece of ginger if you don’t like the taste very spicy.
  • 1 teaspoon raw organic honey

Drink in small sips.

Golden Paste

Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/2 cups of pure water
  • 1/2 cup turmeric powder
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil
  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper

Method


Gently heat up 1 cup water and turmeric.

Using a wooden spoon, keep stirring until you have a thick paste.

Within 7 minutes the paste will form into a ball, add the rest of the water and stir until smooth.

Using a whisk, stir in coconut oil and black pepper.

Transfer the paste into a glass container, and let cool.

Will keep in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks.

All of these recipes are suitable young for children.
